ROHS Standard

ROHS is an abbreviation for Restriction of Hazardous Substances, which is translated as limitation of toxic matter.

The ROHS is a set of standards established by European law and effective on July 1, 2006 to protect people and the environment from the toxic substances present in electrical and electronic products. All electrical and electronic products sold in the European market are subjected to this set of standards.

regulation, there are six hazardous substances that the ROHS regulates compliance within restriction as follow:

  • Lead (Pb): Lead is used primarily in the manufacture of batteries, televisions and computer monitors.

  • Mercury (Hg): Mercury is used in factories manufacturing fluorescent lamps, aluminum plating, printed circuits...

  • Cadmium (Cd): Cadmium is used in the manufacture of cadmium nickel plating, electroplating, dyes, welding alloys, warning systems...

  • Chromium bromide (Cr, Hexavalent Chromium): Chromium hexavalent chromium is used in photo printing, painting, plastics, stainless steel production.

  • Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs, a compound of bromine): This compound is used in the manufacture of plastic foams and plastics in household electrical appliances.

  • Polybrominated Biphenyls Ethers (PBDEs, a compound of bromine): This compound is used in household electrical appliances, printed circuit boards, capacitors…
