Printing Technology Standard Industrial Labels

Printing is a process of duplicating content and images on different materials. In this article, we will introduce the industrial printing technologies, which are an essential part in the production of publications and stamps in Vietnam.

1. Offset Printing

Offset printing is a popular form of printing industry today. Offset printing is the process of transferring information from the printing mold to the substrate by a single color or multi-color ink under a pressure on a device called a printer.

The basic characteristics of Offset Printing

Offset printing is a method of printing on the principle of flat printing; it means the printed forms of images, scripts and non-print areas have the same height

Offset printing principle

On the printing plate (zinc), the printed elements catch ink; the non-printed elements catch water of the plate and transfer to the rubber printed sheet. When printing on the surface of the material, the image will be printed.

Offset printing technology produces high quality, sharp images that are suitable for producing paper-based products such as magazines, catalogs, marketing brochures, publications needed for business...

Offset printers are usually imported from Germany, America, and Japan... such as Komori, Heidelberg, and Roland...

2. Flexo Printing Technology

in_flexo

Flexo printing is a direct and high-printed method (the ink mold receives ink from the anilox batch and directly transfers the ink to the printing material)

flexo

Flexographic printing is the technique of printing, with information, images, etc. on the printing plate that is higher than the non-printed elements. The images used are reversed images, and then print on the material to be printed. The image will be correct with the design.

Application of Flexo printing technology

The quality of Flexo printing technique is not as high as the quality of Offset and Gravure printing if high resolution image needed. Typically, flexo printing with anilox rolls leads to better product quality when printing evenly and in darker colors because of the T'ram 150DPI.

Flexo printing technology is widely used and has great potential for development thanks to the advantage of meeting the big production schedule, which can print on roll materials for automatic laminating machines.

Flexo technology has the automatic contour cutting system after the printing process. If the material is decal, the excess parts of the product are removed from the paste. Flexo printing is the right choice for printing labels, stickers, stamps, labels, labels, packages, carton cases and prints on a variety of specialty materials.

3. Gravure Printing

Gravure printing is a direct method of printing, which the printed elements is lower and uneven with the non-printed elements, ie on a printing plate, image or script (called the printed elements). ) is carved into the metal surface.

This technique will have two processes: The ink (liquid) is delivered to the surface of the printing mold, the ink will also infiltrate the indentations of the print element, and then a device called the blade (Doctor blade) will squeeze the ink excess from the surface of the mold. When squeezing the ink in the dimples under the pressure will propagate to the surface of the material.

Application of Gravure printing

Transfer ink directly to the printed material, configure the simplest printing unit, and reproduce the image in depth and honesty, high durability of printing plate.

Gravure printing is more accurated and restores higher image quality than Flexo and Offset printing. Gravure printing is applied on a variety of different materials such as paper, plastic film, thin metal, PE, OPP, and PET...

Gravure printing is widely used in the packaging industry: washing powder, candy, coffee, food packages.

Disadvantages

The used ink for Gravure printing is a toxic solvent ink for environment and people. Also, its initial cost is high and required high quantity of orders.

4. Digital Printing

Digital printing is the method of direct printing from digital images to diverse media platforms. Digital printing is often used in professional printing for fast and medium volume printing. Laser printers and inkjet printers are two of the many types of machines used in digital printing.

Inkjet printing: Inkjet printer works according to the principle of ink injection into the printing paper (according to its name). The ink is sprayed through a small drop-by-dot hole at a high speed (about 5000 times per second) which produces ink dots small enough to produce sharp prints.

The majority of inkjet printers are usually color printers (which combine black and white printing plates). To print out the color you need a minimum of 3 inks. The colors are shown by mixing three basic colors together.

Laser Printing:

inlaser

Operating principle of laser printing:

The laser is swept onto the drum through the spinning polygon mirror-> the laser turns on the empty surface. (This beam is strong or weak depending on the lightness of each pixel and it shines on the blank surface, reducing the resistance of the film on it).

At different locations the laser beam has different intensities -> have different resistances -> when rolling over the high voltage charged wires will have different large and small charges.

Low charge locations (~ 0) do not absorb ink, and high-charge locations will absorb ink.

The amount of ink depends on the strength of the charge point when the drum rolls through the cartridge to make up the content to be printed.

When paper passes through the drum, the content to be printed will be transferred to the paper.

The ink is melted when the paper passes through the drying shaft. The temperature of the drying shaft is about 250 degrees Celsius and together with the pressure of the molten ink drying shaft, is pressed against the paper.

Color laser printers work the same way as black and white laser printers, but the cartridges have basic colors of black, yellow, magenta and cyan, the combination of colors allows for mixing color printing.

Advantage and Application of Digital Printing

Short preparation time, easy to modify if the design is errored or colors are not standard. Precise control of the number of printed plates to print, avoiding unnecessary wasted printing.

Digital printing makes it easy to fulfill orders for a variety of clients, from large companies, foreign businesses to small businesses, individuals, and for events,...

Printed data is customizable based on variable numbers and data, easy to change and can use different data files without slowing the printing process like Offset, Flexo, and Gravure printing. Therefore, the digital printing technology has helped the fast printing service to develop continuously...

5. Screen Printing (Sillkscreen Printing)

This printing method is one of the oldest printing techniques. Screen printing is a type of printing technique based on the principle of ink penetration through the image grid which will be printed on the surface of the material by which some of the printed mesh have been sealed with chemicals.

Screen printing uses a wooden frame then stretches a thin silk sheet like an embroidery frame. So before, the printing method is also known as silk screen printing and then there are some other alternative materials such as cotton, fabric, metal mesh should be generally referred to as net printing.

In addition to the grid, an indispensable tool in performing this printing technique is a sheet-shaped, non-absorbent sheeting used to pull silk called "knives." The knive is a tool used to push the ink to make the ink permeable through the net, transfer ink to the product to be printed.

The process of printing can be done manually or by machine, but no matter which method is using, the most important characteristics for the printed plate are flat, firm and have a certain degree of elasticity so that the mold can be exposed face to face with the printed product.

Application of Screen Printing

Although the Screen printing method is slow, its advantages are that it can print on any material and even on uneven surfaces. The application of screen printing is very popular in the life such as scratches printing, glass and cup printing... and also can use different types of ink, or special materials to create different effects...
